I got bored and started to write about:

The Goth scene in Limerick.

[Iam keeping names out of this in case the people I know
or that are mentioned get offended and also if ye
deny ye did something ye have probably forgotton about
 it and I have not]

Well, the goth scene in Limerick eh, is there any ?
Iam not quite sure to be honest, it is ever so slowly growing.
every so often I see more baby bats emerging who tend to sway
towards the spooky kid type rather than Goth, but when they
listen to the music and learn a bit about the subclture you
notice them changing.

So how many people in black have we in stab city ?
If I include the young un's Id say around 22 give or take.
>From when I was younger I only ever remember seeing 2-3 goths,
and when I made "First contact" it was a time when the over protective
parents decided to throw out any item of black clothing I had so
all I had was 2 long brown trench coats and a load of ol army
combats.

First Contact:
I say first contact because of this thing that always seems
to happen. You see them, they see you, you wonder who they are,
they wonder who you are (and prob slag you off). Then there is
the stares at each other and the walk by's where you ignore them
completly and they you. Each tries to fid out who the other is and
ends up grunting or saluting one day........
....eventually you get talking and either love or hate each other.

The original goth of Limerick was female and I cant
remember her name but she was feckin old and she dressed
very lavishly and suddenly disappeared of the face of the planet.

The next I remember is also female and is convinced she is the
original goth in Limerick and is the more gother than thou type.
If I was to believe the stories I hear it would mean she was
around ten years of age when she was nightclubbing and stuff.
(hey I did not even know the word Goth exsisted until I was 16)

There is also another Guy I know who a lot of people think is
some sort of "Goth God" and who's into the scene like since forever.
but since he's roughly the same age as myself and I know the
face for years....well I never remember seeing him dress in black
once or ever heard that he liked goth music years ago.
It was like he just opened a packet of insta-goth and was
all of a sudden always a goth and always loved goth music.
(fuck after reading that paragragh I sound jealous!)

I must confess that I did not start building up my wardrobe
again until I saw a few black clad figures in Limerick
and of course once the internet was widely available I was
looking up every resource I could find and printing them out
and passing them out which made me instantly popular with
the lady folk. With my first fisit to the tower and getting
an email addy of one of the people I met there it was
time to start collecting every bit of music darkwave/goth I could
afford and also the start of me becoming a net.goth .
Now Iam a net addict.

So far we have the Older Goths and the newer to the scene ones.

The Older ones tend to bicker and fight amongst themselves quite often.
They complain about the lack of Goths in Limerick and then when
someone new arrives they dislike them/snob/slag/abuse and say
who the hell do they think they are wearing black like that.
(very imature) I remember one night somebody slagging off
someone new to the scene saying that the person was only a kid.
It turned out the "Kid" was older than her.
Somtimes they will get to know them a bit and talk to them
when nobody else is looking and one usually might get to sit
in "the Goth corner" in the local niteclub ....for a while.

you still get the odd Iam not a Goth and Iam not conforming
to a label shite. Odd since they might dress in Black,
listen to goth music, smoke cloves and drink snakebite
hang out with the other goths etc
(if it looks like shit and tastes like shit.....)
I have no problem labelling myself as a goth cos Iam not
exactly going to be decribed as a raver now am I.
After all is it something to be ashamed of or is the term
derogatory ? I dont think so.

The new/young ones that need to be nourished and educated
where do they come out of ?
97-98 4 spooky kid arrived out of the blue started prancing
down the streets in daylight with the white clown-makeup
the cuts on there arms, sunglasses over their eyes on dull days
and sporting Marlyin Manson t-shirts, they tried to get into the pub
got laughed at and were then generally seen around loitering.
3 of them Id say were influenced by some of the goths in Limerick
and started getting curious and are not so spooky kidish now.
the other one goes from black leather to baggy pants skateboarder
and sometimes both at the same time which is scary.

Once they settled in, and didnt go away came a wave of girls all dressed in
black etc to try and impress the guys. Then came the guy
tryin to impress the girls.

Me where to I fit in ? I started distancing myself from everyone
trying to talk to most but yet not get too close.
I had got sick of all the fighting.
A few I found sneered too much at people in generel and were not
well liked. I was sickened by that and decided Iam better off
by myself lest I end up like them.

Ive now got a newish girlfriend who is new to this dismel
goth scene in Limerick and am force feeding her
all the goth FAQ's on the net and copying loads of Music for her
with lyrics/pictures/biographys etc.

Enough about the people.

There is only 2 goth friendly pubs in Limerick
Quinns and Costellos.

Quinns or the Vintage Club has been labelled
a gay bar and a biker bar before but it is neither.
Its just a place without a strict dress code where
you can have a good time or a boring one if your going there
7 years every day you have off work.
you find a mix of people there from Bikers (lots)
metalers,ravers,scumballs,crusty's,gay/straight/bi,
and everyone seems to get on ok without any clashes of
culture.

Costellos is run by the you guessed it the Costello family.
Upstairs used to be termights b4 it relocated itself.
Its once of those places you go for a quite pint with no
loud music and where you dont get disturbed by every one
you know. (old mans/Army/Garda type of Pub)

I cant remember what the nighclubs were like when I was ten but
the only thing we have here is Termights niteclub which
used to be great but now is not-so-great.
its an indie/70/80'd club run by BOB and Mark.
Lately you get songs from the Beach Boys Pixies and Violent femmes.
If your lucky you get the Sisters of Mercy--temple of love
     Joy Division--transmission
     Soft cell--sew dwarf
Dead or Alive--you spin me round
     Cure --forest
and thats about it. Ive tried over and over again to get some
goth music played but they refuse to play any of my cd's
I did get Creaming Jesus's version of a forest played once
which relly confused the fuck out of the baby bats.

If I had the chance to open a niteclub in Limerick
Id call it Posers

clothes shopping places to go?
Once upon a time you could get some good stuff from
a shop called Modesty in Foxes Bow for male and female.
Now its the usual Dark Angel dresses and the Swiss army coats.
a bit of leather here and there.

Eves is our leather store of Limerick and is brilliant
for the long leather coats if your willing to pay.
They will custom fit anything and if you old leather
trench coat is looking a bit worn the will fix it up and
re-blackin it all for you and make it almost god as new.

The Edge you get second hand stuff and stuff that did not
pass factory quality tests.

Just like most other cities we have the usual Churches
Graveyards just in case you think I left them out.

That about all I have to write about Limerick
if any of ye are ever down here drop me an email at
