Roswell
July 5th 1947, the desert lay silent and undisturbed beneath a sunlit sky. Few people were out in the desert but the ones that were, were about to experiance the most unusual event of their lives. Unfortunately, no one believed them and those who had the authority to make us believe covered up what has become one of the top mysteries in history.
Roswell, New Mexico...July 4th 1947..10:00PM
Mr. and Mrs. Wilmot were sitting on their front porch when they both observed a large luminous object moving through the sky headed northwest and a very high rate of speed. They watched it for perhaps 30 or 40 seconds before it disappeared from sight. It appeared to be oval shaped and the entire body of the craft glowed with an inner light. Mr. Wilmot said the object was approximately 5 feet in length and he surmised that it must have been 10 to 20 feet in diameter but he could not be sure. Mrs. Wilmot reported that the craft made a strange swishing sounds as it moved through the sky.
The desert outside Roswell, New Mexico..July 5th 1947
A family in search of some unusual rocks found more than a few agates and some polished dinosaur bone. Six members of the same family were walking down an arroyo when they made the discovery of a lifetime. As they rounded a corner in the dry stream bed they found a silver disc embedded into the side of a hill. But not only was there a space ship but the inhabitants of the craft were also in evidence. There were four strange beings there beside the crashed ship. Two of them lie unmoving in the shade of the ship while another struggled for breath. The fourth appeared unharmed but did show great distress as the family approached them. As much as they tried to communicate with the creatures it seemed as if they had no understanding of the language.
As the sun climbed to noonday heights the desert began to heat up, 115F but the observers noticed that beneath the craft and close to it the air was cooler. In fact one of the young boys was so brave as to touch the side of the ship and said it felt like ice. He also claims to have touched one of the creatures but found the feel and texture of it's skin to be unappealing and soon moved away from them. They milled around and were joined by some archaologists and students that were in the area and they too seemed unable to communicate with the creatures. All their efforts were for naught for as they waited and watched a contingent of army personell stormed the hill and took charge of the entire area. Before they knew it they were whisked away and escorted less than gently from the area. They were threatened that if they ever revealed anything abotu this "secret military aircraft" that they would never see their families again.
As the family climbed the hill to leave they looked back at the invaders and found that the military seemed to be more than prepared. There were trucks and airplanes, the roads had been blocked off, and radio communications gear was all ready to go. There was even an ambulance and the soldiers were armed to the teeth.
For days afterward, New Mexico teemed with reports of strange lights in the sky, odd echoes on radar, and strange goings-on in the desert.
Roswell, New Mexico ...July 6th 1947
Rancher Mac Brazel carried some strange debris into the Roswell Sheriff's office. The military was immediately notified, and Colonel William Blanchard and Major Jesse A. Marcel arrived at the scene to examine the material.
Numerous witnesses describe the material as "thin as newsprint and light as a feather. It was slightly flexible but very strong. The material would not bend; nor would it burn or be dented with a sledgehammer. The material was lighter and stronger and more fire resistant than anyone had ever seen, and 'heaven help us if the Russians had that type of material at this time.' " He described the debris area as "three-quarters of a mile long and 200 to 300 feet across, with a gouge at the top end of it that was about 500 feet long and 10 feet wide."
With all evidence gone and the military claiming that it was just a weather balloon the story faded from sight and became just another "ghost story" to tell on dark and stormy nights.
For thirty years the story lay dormant and then Major Jesse A. Marcel decided that his silence needed to be broken. The military had done their best to discredit the witnesses but one by one they too stood up with Marcel and gave matching testimony. Project Blue Book was the Air Force's UFo investigation program. Supposively the the UFo cases are declassified and recorded under Project Blue Book. The name has changed several times but none-the-less the program was terminated on December 17th, 1969.
Today the mystery still remains as to what truly happened in July of 1947 in Roswell, New Mexico. People still believe that aliens have visited the planet and that there is life out there but the military and government still refuse to tell us the truth. Whispers of secret intelligence discoveries of aliens and their craft filter down to public awareness, but no one is sure of what is fact and what is fiction. Even the populare television show Unsolved Mysteries tried to taake a crack at revealing the truth but to no avail.
After Unsolved Mysteries aired then later a show was aired called Alien Autopsy that was supposedly the recorded autopsy of the alien bodies that were recovered after the crash. Many believe this to be a hoax as there are several discrepencies in the aliens and their bodies. Some see it as further proof that aliens are among us. If so they may be our hope for the future, if not then at least we can still have our dreams of space ships and stars to give our spirit respite from the everyday mundaity.
One place that has broken away from the mundanity is Roswell, New Mexico. The town is now a booming business based on t-shirts and coffee cups emblazoned with aliens and space craft of all kinds. The people that live there believe and the ones that visit seem to at least question what they had previously had thought was real.
Fact or fiction either way Roswell will remain in our lives either as a myth or regional legend, or perhaps it shall join the annals of history and be remembered as the day we realized that we truly are not alone.
