Gothic Topic Magazine's Preimer
Dallas Texas
April 29th 2000

The Gothic Topic Magazine Premier party was a success! The party was held at
a Pagan Community center called Betwixt & Between. At first I thought it was
a night club, but as you wonder into the back courtyard your greeted by a
small theater for plays, a fountain on one of the ways with many Green Man
statues, an old wooden coffin by a picnic corner that is surrounded by
hanging vines that somewhat shadow and give peace to all lounging in the
picnic area. There was a nicely place stone (almost alter like), which
looked like it may be there for ritual. The place had a vibe about it like
spirits were welcoming all travelers to rest and relax, to drink and be
merry. When night time came around, there was a fire-breather wowing the
audience. I got some GREAT pictures! I was so close to the guy I almost got
my arms singed! I learned that the Betwixt & Between Community Center was a
mutual meeting place where people with an interest in nature based religions
can honor the ancient Gods & Goddesses and congregate with other like minded
individuals. The center also offers to it's members wellness programs, as
well as the option to confer with a lawyer, see a therapist, and other
programs for educational and self learning. The B&B truly a peaceful place
between the harsh realities of what daily life can bring.

& Between's site at:

The vendors were a mix match of beautifully crafted jewelry (I think) by
Silk & Stone. (Jett, do you remember the name of the Jeweler as you walked
out back?) A kickass fetish/Gothic photographer with a few portfolios and
pictures for sale named Natasha Epperson.

StarVox & Nocturnal Movements were handing out the free stuff! Thanks Jett
and Blu! There was a crystal table at the entrance (but I don't think they
were selling stuff. Just handing out info about the Sanctuary they have.
There was an incense and other smelly stuff vendor set up just outside the
doors. So everyone entering the building was greeted with the scent of
jasmine, patruli, and other mystical smells.
There was also wonderfully made corsets by Talana Gamah and Ieish (pronounced eye-EESH). If
your not familiar with their work, some background info on them (thanks to ::CyBeRiNa FLuX:: ). Talana Gamah and Ieish are from London where they did
film, stage, and fetish couture and corsetry. The biggest project that they
have completed was the costuming for the BBC mini-series production of Neil
Gamain's Neverwhere. Talana Gamah and Ieish also have quite a bit of
artwork. Mostly self-portraits.
Examples of their corsetry can be found here:

As the party started, between shows, and as the night settled, there was
great DJ'ed music provided by StarVox Music Zine. Blu (from Atlanta, GA)
and ::CyBeRiNa FLuX:: They were spinning brand, SPANKING new, music from
bands like Soil & Eclipse, Deadsy, Love Spirals Downwards, Rhea's Obsession,
Pain Station, Bella Morte, The Cruxshadows, cut.rate.box, Decoded Feedback,
and Pulse Legion. There was also old favorites like The Cure, Cocteau Twins,
Christian Death, Current 93, and Severed Heads.

There was only four bands playing that night, with a schedule of about an
hour for each, yet I don't think anyone followed that hour schedule. LOL!
Coven 13 started everything by casting a circle with a reading from the Book
of Shadows. Coven 13 put on a WONDERFUL show. They had an array of
theatrical performances and a beautiful dancer who graced the stage, and off
the stage, with such a beautiful dancing flare as if gifted by the Muse of
Dance herself. Each song Coven 13 performed seem to invoke, from deep
within, the universal meanings of what music was crafted for. From Love, to
loss. From Pain, to Joy. From life, to death, Coven 13 has it all within
their music. Coven 13 was a joy to behold and have created a new fan within
me.

Exceed 6 Doses was next, living up the circle, intensifying the boundaries,
as they crafted their mix of electric, ambient, slightly pop, lust filled
music. Charles Macullick has one of the most beautiful voices gifted to a
man. Jayseon C. (pronounced Jay-Ce-auhn) seemed a little hidden by his large
DAT, guitar, and keyboard structure he erected, but was well known by the
sensational flow of this bands aural erotic sounds. Airyk Waters is a new
addition to the band and enhances them with his superb guitar backing. The
sear smoothness of this bands performance was ecstasy to the ears. These
guys are small known, but have the tools, all the raw material, and skills
that make a great band!

Following the sexual flow from E6D was Replicate. If Coven 13 set the
circle, E6D intensified and smoothed it with erotic tones, Replicate shook
it up and grinded the circle into bump and grind BLISS with their slightly
edged, Industrial Punk sounds! This band was HYPED and more then willing to
share their intense sound with all the neighborhood! Now That everything is
over, I'm left wanting to know where I can pick up a CD? I didn't find any
of them around the Center, but it could have been cause they were all
snatched by others.

The last band to close the circle, and so tastefully did they close it with
their showers of glitter and 7 foot dancing penis, was The Blessed Virgin Larry. Lead singer Gamma and crew brought the stage a more rock feel as they
resonated intense drums, hard bass, ferrous guitar, and awesome vocals! TBVL
has erupted onto the Rock scene and beware the glitter flow!

I got to finally read through the Premier Issue of Gothic Topic Magazine on
the trip home. (It was an intense night by all!) I found it to be one of
those magazines that pulls you in and makes you want to read page after page
till you get ticked, when finished, that the magazine was over. I want MORE!
Gothic Topic is a very good start by Trace Campbell and crew. Trace told me
that the next issues will be even better. He is currently working with
Caitlin from Carpe Noctume Magazine and the issues will get darker in Gothic
flow, but will keep it's wonderful Wiccan and Pagan aspects and show that
the two not only walk hand in hand, but are apart of the balances within
life and the magazine. Trace describes Gothic Topic as the forum for both
the Gothic and the Wiccan/Pagan community. The magazine is a jamboree of
music interviews and previews, art and beautiful pictures, poems and
stories, spells and education in the mystical arts as well as being the
source information of where to get some of the coolest Gothic and Pagan art,
cloths, jewelry, and stuff for the home. Gothic Topic was beautifully done
Trace! Gothic Topic is the craftsmanship of dreams come true.
Gothic Topic
It was great hanging out with Steven Holiday,
the beautiful Kat DeWinter and her light hearted laughter with
a soft soul , and the perky, quick witted, and outgoing Angel! Jett Black
(SiCk Of gOd) always had a comment, a wonderful thought to share, or was
always devising a plan to get people promoted, introduced, or helping to
hold together the structures of the Gothic/Industrial/Ambient/and all things
in-between, music scenes. But we still need to find out if Jett's ticklish!
Next time Jett, watch out, were gonna tickle you! Jayseon C. and Charles
Macullick from Exceed 6 Doses were the highlight of our stay in Dallas.
These guys know how to party and kept us laughing with their jokes,
comments, and quick witted spunk. Thanks Jayseon and Charles for letting us
crash at your place, for showing us around, and always having a cool movie
ready for us to pass out to. Thanks for introducing us to the Church
(Dallas's Best night club, IMHO). Trace Campbell (head of Gothic Topic
Magazine) was a very down to earth, and open guy. Trace was on top of
everything and did not even seem pressed or stressed as he made sure the
night ran smooth. Trace is a man and a brother! Thanks Trace for all your
work and for putting on such a wonderful night!
The Gothic Topic Premier was one of the best nights Michele and I had with
old friends, net friends, and new friends, that we had in a long time!
