Heart of Darkness

What is going on outside?
Is there thunder? Is there rain?
It's so serene and quiet here,
the eye of the hurricane.
I've forgotten how to shed a tear.
I've forgotten hurt and pain.
I've forgotten greed, forgotten fear.
I've finally found a place to hide,
living in the world inside,
and they call me insane!
Let all outside succeed or fail,
I'll just follow the vapor trail.
I'll just ride the tide,
adrift on the sea inside.
Who cares what happens
beyond the border?
Who needs their hatred
and disorder?
Certainly not me!
I'll have no part in their conspiracy.
All I wish is to be truly free,
to break these worthless mortal chains,
and roam the endless Elysian plains.
I don't want to hear
their laughter or their cries,
their questions or their pleas,
their little world I so despise,
I don't want their disease!
So I'm living on the inside.
