Heart of Darkness

a march of destiny and dread
on paths where wise men fear to tread
a torch burns in the dark and lonely
forest of the damned and dead
silence falling...cannons fire...
the rain is coming down again
thunder-cracked, my heart's desire
the rain is coming down
remembering days we walked alone
the paths where sunlight's never shone
and memories of gilded trees
now cold and dead and turned to stone
alone and cold, the child screams
the rain is coming down again
a scream to shatter crystal dreams
the rain is coming down
and whispering my quiet cries
of desperation to the skies
lost in dark thoughts, cannot see
the light reflected in your eyes
lightning flashes...cold wind blows
the rain falls down
but nothing grows...
