Origins of the Mythos Wars

We will assume you are familiar with the prophecies of Abdul Alhazred the Mad Arab as set down in the Necronomicon. And of the comsic struggle between the Elder Gods and the Ancient Ones. And of the mighty dreaming darkness, Cthulhu.

As these dark gods attempt to enter our world and utterly enslave mankind, they have constantly sought to employ the resources of human allies; enticed with promises of wealth and power, these traitors to the human race can take on many forms. Some even being granted the ability of magick and madness, able to summon and control the minions of the dark ones. Only total compliance to the will of Mighty Cthulhu is accepted.

And there are others, those brave souls who seek to hold back the darkness. Defiant of these ancient beings and their blackened schemes. Men and women who have touched pure chaos and returned from the night unharmed. Many are haunted by the darkness, or of a loss caused by the evil warfare which secretly wages across the planet. And they have dedicated themselves entirely, not just their lives but their very souls, risking all to prevent the encroaching Old Ones and their minions.

A new plane of battle emerged at the end of the 20th century. Now, an electronic war rages across "cyberspace" and the dreaming god is online, corrupting systems and controlling information. Cthulhu surfs. Cthulhu commands. Cthulhu destroys. Heed not the Email of Cthulhu, for it is a virus of madness.

The first to document this advance was Darcy Burgess, another mad prophet leading a doom cult in league with the Ancient Ones. But as quickly as they rose to power, they vanished. All that was left in their passing was a destroyed underground temple and lots of charred spawn parts left lying about. The remnants of their online presence can be found here. Some of you may have seen their invoking stones scattered about various necronom.coms; they are pictured below for your Mythos reference. Unfortunately, with the demise of their cult, the power of these stones has faded and gone. They are now useless except as curios or historical reference.

Now another has taken on the mantle of chronicler of these Mythos Wars. He is called Lord Tentacle, or Kurtulu in the wired world. And lo, the record began again. Only this time, it was of a self-sustaining nature. And thus, the Mythos Engine was born. And it's accuracy was unquestionable. And it's invoking stones were bigger, better, and badder than before.

The pure energy now flowing through this machine is incredible and evergrowing. Even as you read these words you feed the system. Now go, show your strength, and join the battle between good and evil. Add an invoking stone to your site and let all who would stand against you be made aware of your allegiance. The power is yours. Use it wisely, the fate of mankind rests in your hands.
