When me and my roomie moved in, this place was a slum. There is no kind way to put it. the apt was found for us by friends. We rented it sight unseen. Never do that. I have no pictures of the pee soaked carpets we tore out, the mold filled frige or the unspeakable bathroom tiles. However, we set to scrubbing and scouring.
Joy of joys the building sold. (which is why we stayed) It was gutted and renovated. A 9-month ordeal we lived through onsite. Life being what it is we slapped on some better paint in the kitchen and bathroom and that was the extent of our decor design. No themes, no cohesion, we were just thankful to have a new cheap place to live.
Now 8 years later it is time to get this place looking like a home. Another miracle happened in which we aggreed on the colour for the livingroom. The colour can only be described as a sagey-algae, at least it is calming. We have been scraping and refinishing the livingroom floor by hand. It is oak and way old. But has come to life beautifully.
What's next? The bedrooms ofcourse! Mine will be a lovely china blue/periwinkle. Which is very ralaxing and meditative. The floor on the other hand is a worry. I have discovered that it is softwood. So I think the best that I can do is, sand it lightly and slap a clear coat on it. I will end up with a genuine distressed dark floor.
