Awakening
Awakening is a term used to describe when a vampire is first discovering his or her vampirism. Vampires can be awakened any time from childhood to adulthood. It is dependent upon the individual and their situation. Turning a normal person into a vampire is not possible as far as I know. A vampire carries their vampirism with them in their souls for countless lifetimes. Sharing blood or casting a spell cannot reproduce this. I say this because many people go on chats and message boards claiming to be physically immortal, but the fact is that if they say they're centuries old or that they can turn other people into vampires, they are only lying. The only reason they get away with it without being laughed at is because some people are foolish enough to believe it. A normal person can't be turned into a vampire because their minds and bodies aren't made to handle the changes in thought, belief, abilities and life. The traditional way of giving a regular person vampire blood to change them is of no help either. It is said that giving a vampire's blood to a regular person will cause severe paranoia and nightmares for the person being "turned". The feeding method, however, usually involves a more experienced vampire feeding deeply from an awakening vampire so that they can learn to sense when they lose energy and how they regain it by instinctively feeding.
I can understand why some people would want to be turned, but what these people don't realize is that being a vampire is not as wonderful as some make it out to be. It is often just another problem among many with inescapable little symptoms preventing them from doing many things. Lights are magnified to create headaches, the sun makes them dizzy, burns, and depletes their energy; they have to wrestle with their morals and beliefs, become disciplined in the arts of feeding and manipulating energy, and learn to control their emotions without going literally insane. This isn't a game, and it isn't something that can be changed. If you aren't a vampire, consider the problems you already have due to who and what you are and try to think why you would want any more.
Most often vampires either become or were witches before (or after) their awakening. This is because vampires have a natural ability to manipulate energy, which is the basic practice of magic. They are usually "natural witches", needing no tools or words to perform magic. "Ceremonial" magic – or magic involving a lot of extra tools and actions - can be overly complicated and confusing, along with being a complete waste of time. It has its time and place for celebrations and rituals, but not in everyday magic. Also, coming out as a witch is much easier than coming out as a vampire. There is most likely a much larger population of real witches than there are real vampires.
Many changes occur after an awakening and it's important that these changes are recognized and understood. The person's body will change and so will their mind. After awakening, one becomes more of a predator, reacting to certain situations with pure instinct and to relationships in a very cautious way. This is why most vampires are very solitary and untrusting. Their emotions will go completely out of control and they will often think themselves insane. Depression will seem inescapable, because it's there at every turn, but one cannot give up hope. Vampires are not insane, just different. And with their differences come their skills and knowledge. Not all changes are immediate, so we each have to let our bodies develop as they were made to naturally do and not force them into something that could end up being a real burden later on in life. You are what you are and if you can accept than you can be beautiful.
