Introduction to Vampirism

All of the information here about vampires is real. You may not (want to) believe in it, but I assure you that there is a basis of truth behind it all. This is not meant to teach you about the myths and legends of the past, but of the truth that is still being uncovered in the present. By this I mean that movies, books, and other fiction are obviously not real. They’re for entertainment. This is for informative purposes. If you find the idea of real vampirism offensive, then you may leave.

There are some basic things about all kinds of vampires that one should know.

The very definition of vampirism involves feeding off of another to survive. This is true, but the methods and the “food” aren’t always what one might expect. Vampires continually thirst for life force, either in the form of blood or life energy. These are further explained in the individual essays on psi and blood vampirism.

Vampires do not spontaneously combust in sunlight. They do however have a strong sensitivity to sunlight. Some say that it is because they cannot absorb energy from such a powerful source. They tend to become dizzy and weak beneath direct light of any sort, as well as abnormally hot. This temperature change may be bearable for normal people, but a vampire has a naturally low body temperature, and so is more sensitive to such changes.

The personality of a vampire is extremely diverse. They can be paranoid and extremely solitary, but they can also easily become the center of attention - especially if they aim to be. It is a way to gain a lot of energy quickly, and sometimes people are drawn to a vampire merely because they have this energy. However, vampires are notorious for being unable to keep up relationships, mostly because they are so different from most people and not very trusting by nature. They can one day enjoy a person's presence and hate it then next. When a vampire is with a person, they often feel drawn into them and start to feel the person's emotions and to even know their thoughts, but often their relationships feel hollow or are unhealthy. They just don't feel like they can have the right amount of intimacy with anyone around them. I believe this is why many of the vampires I know are generally known as teases. They attract many, but trust and stay with very few.

A vampire's emotions are wild and raw, so their actions are often overwhelming to themselves and to others. They have natural empathetic abilities, and take in other people's emotions as they take in their energy. If a vampire doesn't learn to control this they become extremely emotionally unstable. A lot of vampires are diagnosed as bipolar, but medication doesn't usually help. It's much more beneficial if they learn to control their emotions instead of forcing a numb state with pills.

Vampires are generally intelligent and constant seekers of truth and balance. In a way, that is what a vampire is; a keeper of balance. They take energy and give energy, to hurt and to heal. They aren't light, but they aren't dark either. They're the shadows of the universe, the beings that are caught in-between the world of the "living" and the other, "magickal" world that lies beneath it. They can learn to enjoy both of these worlds and keep balance between them, but first they must find a balance within themselves. That is a vampire's first great struggle when they begin to awaken to the knowledge of what they really are. They don't just suddenly become vampires, for they are what they are in spirit at all times, but instead become aware of their true selves. Once they have discovered the truth, it is their duty to learn how to control their actions so that they don't hurt others or themselves. It's one reason why it is so important to keep this kind of information available, so that the people who really need it can find it.

Normal people tend to have odd reactions to vampires, even if they aren't aware that they are in the presence of one. Vampires tend to be seen as "old souls", or very wise for their age. They feel that way too, and often have friends who are much older than them. They find that people like to ask them for advice because they see what a person usually does not, or know things without being told. Reactions aren't always positive though. Many people will instinctively fear a person who is a vampire, or will be extremely intimidated by them. Vampires change the lives of everyone they come into contact with - by their touch, their look, their words, and even their thoughts. They might seem like bad luck, or like they're bringing chaos to everything around them, but it is actually needed change that they tend to be catalysts for. Destruction is a part of change, and though it may seem horrible as the change occurs, it usually ends with a fresh, new beginning.

Vampires are also naturally drawn to the occult, and that is often how they come to know what they are. When they first hear about real vampires something is let loose inside of them. They are driven to know all about them and yearn to know all of the secrets. When they can identify with vampiric traits they feel a certain excitement, as of discovery. The stage of wearing black and putting on excessive amounts of make up often seems like the only way for expression. But once a person gets over that stage, they realize that the greatest truth is not what is shown to everyone else, but what is deep inside of them. A person is who they are now matter how they look, and if other people can't see it without also seeing a lot of make up and black clothing, then they don't deserve to know the person behind it. However, people deserve to know themselves, and that's why it's important to keep searching and learning.

Unfortunately, when researching to find the truth it is easy to find lies. This is where you come in. You have to filter through the lies and find your own truth. The important thing to keep in mind when finding out if you are vampire is whether or not you truly believe you are one, and whether or not you are just lying to yourself because you think that it'd be cool to be a vampire. Think about it thoroughly, but don't discount the idea as crazy or impossible. If you didn't believe a bit of this, would you really be reading this? If you feel a kinship to the experiences and characteristics that are written of throughout this site, then you may be what seems to be impossible - a vampire.

Then comes the confusion involved with labels. So many vampires believe that labels are important. They'll put down people who label themselves with different names, or claim superiority because of their own label. Labels are not meant to define, but to describe. A psi vampire isn't much different from a blood vampire. All manipulate the energy around them; it is the method that makes them different. Psi vampires obviously draw on psychic life force while blood vampires draw on physical life force (blood). Conflict shouldn't exist between the two when they are so alike. But, that is for people to discover themselves.

I hope this information has helped you in whatever truth you are searching for. I invite you to read the other essays to get a better understanding of the two main types of vampires, and to explore the other parts of my site. Keep your mind open at all times and this information may be useful to you.
