Affiliations

I am a member of this webring. I believe in dispelling negative images of Goths, too - the prejudice and resentment that was directed at Goths after the Littleton massacre angered me and sickened me. However, look at the "negative stereotypes" that this logo dispels. "Queer." "Witch." "Satanic." I'm sure you can spot a few others. Is it just me, or do you think there are a few prejudices in there on the part of the Goths? Their web page says that vampires are not a part of the Goth community, which I can assure you was not the case in the early eighties, having been a Goth before anybody knew what Goths were; and just what is wrong with being queer, a witch, or a Satanist, anyway? (For the record, I'm a weird cross between a Unitarian Universalist and an Episcopalian. I also have a great appreciation of Anton LaVey's incisive writing, and I have a lot of Satanist friends. Because I'm a vampire and a witch, and a hedonistic bisexual, there are many who would consider me Satanic, and I am proud to say that I fit that description quite well. Satanists get way too much bad press.)

Anyway, if you think that these Goths-Against-Hate are accidentally spreading hate despite their best efforts to avoid doing so, please write them. Join the webring like I did, and be open about what YOU are. Be polite! Flaming is an act of hate and it ought to be beneath you. For the record, one of the webmistresses told me that because she is a Satanist and has a link to her personal page, the site does not discriminate against satanists and she isn't going to change the wording one smidgen. I respectfully disagree with her. I don't think she knows what kind of image she is projecting...
