      To Hope

      I know you not,
      Yet I love you.
      I have felt your breath,
but never have you been there.
      Now, all is gone,
      my dreams,
      my child,
      my love,
      my sight,
      gone also
      is god,
      is goodness,
      is laughter,
      is light.

      Yet, here I find you.
      on Death's very door,
      when all about is darkness,
      and despair.
      As I crumbled to ashes,
      by my folly and fate,
      you were there.
Yes, you who I looked for,
      and could not find,
My Hope which I felt leave,
      as Love walked away.
      Yet then you were there,
as I once again looked forward.
Even on the forlorn path of Death,
once going forward you could be found.

And so, arm in arm, as a circle would be,
You and I have walked from that place.
For my pain is now a fire,
      and my blood as ice,
and I face a new day,
      for once alone and not.
      for I have found Hope.
She was there as long as I
      thought to move ...
      forward.
